Abstract

In this hybrid presentation and workshop, author Igor Goldkind will share excerpts from his book of poetry and art, Is She Available?, his life in the world of comics and art, and his theories of therapeutic poetry. Goldkind at fourteen served as volunteer Science Fiction Coordinator for the fledgling San Diego Comic Con, where he met Ray Bradbury, Theodor Sturgeon, Larry Niven, Harlan Ellsion, and other science fiction stars. After sharing his poetry, Goldkind will introduce workshop participants into the practice of poetry therapy.

Presenter Biography

Igor Goldkind is an author, educator, and producer of advanced media technology innovations. At the age of 14, Goldkind served as a volunteer Science Fiction Coordinator for the now wildly popular San Diego Comic Con. It was in this capacity that he met Ray Bradbury, whom he asked for advice about becoming a writer. Through Comic Con, Goldkind also befriended Theodore Sturgeon, Larry Niven, Harlan Ellison, and others whom he considered to be heroes of the SF genre. Previous to his work in the digital industries, he worked in the comic publishing industry. In 2010, he was employed by the University of Liverpool as Creative Director and digital producer to  produce a selection of AI driven game applications. In 2016, his award-winning project published by Chameleon Publishing in multiple ebook editions (and a hard cover book), Is She Available?, broke ground in combining poetry, comics, jazz and animation.
