Abstract

My paper aims to compare Alfed Döbln's novel Berge Meere und Giganten (1924) and Hans Dominik’s Atlantis (1925) to highlight analogies in the way the two authors deal with the topic of ice and to look for similarities between the two books and the way ice is depicted by nowadays apocalyptic novels.

Presenter Biography

Matteo Gallo Stampino graduated in European and Extraeuropean Languages and Literatures (Master's Degree) with a thesis on contrastive translation applied to Goethe's Faust. His research interests are German and Scandinavian contemporary literature and translation studies.  His doctoral research project aims to analyse Alfred Doblin’s novel Berge Meere und Giganten (1924). In particular, the focus is set  on the relationship between human beings, nature and technology in order to conduct an analysis which final goals are to examine the impact of this novel in the German society  and to establish a connection between this work and nowadays literary production in the Anthropocene era.
