Abstract
AI technology is transforming rhetorical practice, and thus our role as scholars and educators, upending the primacy of developing marketable skills. So be it. Rhetorical instruction for most of the last 2,500 years was explicitly ethical, and a return to this model is our greatest chance for societal impact.
Presenter Biography
Brett Jacinto Shanley is a Lecturer at the University of California, Merced. He earned his PhD from Columbia University in 2022 and has a forthcoming book titled To Be Rather Than to Seem: Rhetorical Ethics in Ancient Greece & Rome with Rowman & Littlefield.
