Abstract

Indigenous languages in Latin America have been in contact with the Spanish language for several centuries and the speakers of these languages have been both linguistically and culturally impacted by this fact. Therefore, in this panel, the focus is on Spanish and Q'anjob'al, a Mayan language spoken mostly in Guatemala. 

Presenter Biography

Gaspar López López is a language liaison supervisor at the Hillsboro School District where he oversees translation and interpretation services provided to staff members, students, and families. He is also a graduate student at Portland State University, and his work focuses on approaches and linguistic practices of the Mayan language Q'anjob'al and Spanish.
