Adapting Gender Subversive Plotlines for Children

Abstract

My presentation will focus on the translation and adaptation Luis Vélez de Guevara’s comedia, El rey naciendo mujer, for children. My main topics of discussion include how to broach discussions of gender identity and human sexuality for young children and their parents in an age appropriate manner.  

Presenter Biography
Brenda Saraí Jaramillo studies contemporary Latin American literature at UCLA. Before arriving at UCLA, Saraí received her B.A. in Comparative Literature from Brown University, where she specialized in literary translation. She has been a member of the UCLA Diversifying the Classics Working Group on Comedia since 2019.
