For decades, Alfred Hitchcock has captured the minds of general audiences and scholars alike. Well known for his psychosexual thrillers and for establishing his formula of suspense, Hitchcock remains a fascinating figure and his legacy remains prominent in the landscape of American film. Papers may explore any aspect of Hitchcock’s film oeuvre, but, given the site of this year's PAMLA conference, some papers may focus on his 1958 cornerstone film Vertigo.
For decades, Alfred Hitchcock has captured the minds of general audiences and scholars alike. Well known for his psychosexual thrillers and for establishing his formula of suspense, Hitchcock remains a fascinating figure and his legacy remains prominent in the landscape of American film. This panel invites papers on any aspect of Hitchcock’s film oeuvre, but, given the site of this year's PAMLA conference, papers on his 1958 cornerstone film Vertigo are especially welcome.

While we invite proposals on any aspect of Alfred Hitchcock's filmic oeuvre, particularly welcome are proposals on Vertigo's relationship to Hitchcock's other films, to San Francisco, to Hitchcock's life, to American culture, politics, and ethnic or gender/sexuality issues, or to later films that borrow from or respond to Vertigo.
