PAMLA's conference taking place during the fortieth anniversary of Don DeLillo’s celebrated novel, White Noise, in the wake of Noah Baumbach’s relatively recent film adaptation, is an auspicious occasion to explore the novel anew, in its own right, in light of its adaptation, and in terms of DeLillo's body of work in between—nine novels, as well as two adapted, two in production, twelve short stories and a short-story collection, and eight plays and a screenplay. This roundtable therefore welcomes proposals on any aspect of Don DeLillo's literary work.
The PAMLA 2025 conference is taking place during the fortieth anniversary of Don DeLillo’s celebrated novel, White Noise (1985). DeLillo's ninth of eighteen novels, White Noise began the two periods that made up the work for which DeLillo is best known: the first period including Libra (1988), Mao II (1991), and Underworld (1997), the second including The Body Artist (2001), Cosmopolis (2003), Falling Man (2007), Point Omega (2010), Zero K (2016), and The Silence (2020). Interestingly, DeLillo's developing body of work is punctuated by Noah Baumbach’s recent film adaptation of White Noise (2022). A celebrated novel’s anniversary would seem an auspicious occasion to explore it anew, in its own right, in light of its adaptation, and in terms the body of work in between—the nine novels above, the fourth and fifth also adapted for film, appearing in 2014 and 2012 respectively, the last two in production, twelve short stories and a short-story collection, and eight plays and a screenplay, the latter, Game 6, appearing in 2005.
The Don DeLillo Society and PAMLA thus welcome proposals on any aspect of DeLillo's literary work.
