The French and Francophone Literature and Culture session brings together scholarly papers on French and Francophone literature and culture. While some presentations will engage with the conference theme, “Our Ruling Classes: Culture, Power, Conflict,” engagement with the theme is not required.
We are open to a wide range of papers dealing with French and Francophone literature and culture. However, we are very much interested in proposals that engage with the special conference theme of "Our Ruling Classes: Culture, Power, Conflict." Possible areas of focus include:

Legitimacy and political authority

Leadership and the figure of the ruler

Colonial rule and postcolonial elites

Race, empire, and authority

Gender and access to leadership

Revolt and resistance

Although the session is framed with the conference theme in mind, we welcome papers on all areas of French and Francophone literature and culture.
